Shall the ax boast itself
_against him that heweth therewith?
Shall the saw magnify itself
_against him that shaketh it?
As if the rod should shake itself
_against them that lift it up,
_or as if the staff should lift up itself
_as if it were no wood!
Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of Hosts,
_send among his fat ones, leanness;
_and under his glory he shall kindle a burning
_like the burning of a fire.
And the light of Israel shall be for a fire,
_and his Holy One for a flame,
_and shall burn and shall devour his thorns
_and his briers in one day;
And shall consume the glory of his forest,
_and of his fruitful field,
_both soul and body;
_and they shall be as when a standard–bearer fainteth.
And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few,
_that a child may write them.
